Ilham Aliyev’s success, Nikol Pashinyan’s failure: China has called for opening the Zangezur Corridor with extraterritorial status
Axar.az reports Russian political analyst Igor Korotchenko made this statement.
"A major political and diplomatic victory for Azerbaijan came with a statement from a senior Chinese official emphasizing the urgent need to open the strategically significant Zangezur Corridor.
Liu Jianchao, head of the International Liaison Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC), stated: "Azerbaijan was the first to support our ‘Belt and Road’ initiative and is actively participating in its implementation. As for the construction of the Zangezur Corridor, it is an important project that will further strengthen ties between Europe and Asia, especially given the current international and regional geopolitical situation," he wrote on his Telegram.
Igor Korotchenko also recalled the agreement signed between three countries. He pointed out that, according to Article 9 of the agreement signed on November 10, 2020, by the President of Azerbaijan, the Prime Minister of Armenia, and the President of Russia, all economic and transport links in the region will be unblocked. The Republic of Armenia guarantees the security of transportation between the western regions of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic to ensure the uninterrupted movement of citizens, vehicles, and goods in both directions. The transportation routes will be monitored by Russia’s FSB Border Service.
