Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has filed a criminal complaint for "insult" against the leader of the main opposition party, Ozgur Ozel, who said the Turkish head of state was the head of a "junta".

Axar.az reports this was announced by Erdogan’s lawyer, Huseyin Aydin, on the social platform X.

"A lawsuit for non-pecuniary damages in the amount of 500,000 TL has been filed at the Ankara Civil Court of First Instance due to the baseless accusations and insulting remarks such as "coup plotter" directed at our President by CHP Chairman Ozgur Ozel during the extraordinary congress.

In addition, a criminal complaint has been filed with the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office for insulting the President," he wrote.
