Ishaq Dar, Pakistan’s deputy prime minister and foreign minister, arrived in Kabul on Saturday morning for his first official visit to Afghanistan in his current role.
Axar.az reports Dar is leading a high-level delegation that includes Pakistan’s special envoy for Afghanistan, Sadiq Khan; the prime minister’s special assistant, Tariq Bajwa; and senior officials from the ministries of commerce, railways and interior, according to Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The visit marks the first time Dar has traveled to Afghanistan since assuming the post of foreign minister earlier this year.
Notably, the meeting comes as Islamabad has launched a strict campaign to evict by the end of April more than 800,000 Afghans who have had their residence permits cancelled -- including some who were born in Pakistan or lived there for decades.
Pakistan’s deputy interior minister Tallal Chaudhry said on Friday that nearly 85,000 Afghans have crossed into Afghanistan since the start of April, the majority of them undocumented.
