European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has been awarded the Charlemagne International Prize. She has been recognized as a leader of Europe and a strong voice for Europe in the world.
Axar.az reports that the presentation ceremony held in Aachen, Germany, was attended by about 700 influential guests, including EU Council President Antonio Costa, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and King Felipe V of Spain.
In her speech, U. Leyen drew attention to the importance of further strengthening Europe's independence against the backdrop of global crises:
"It is time for Europe to stand up again and implement the next great European project."
U. Leyen, also touching on the growing geopolitical tensions in recent times, emphasized that the world is once again characterized by imperialist claims and wars.
