In March, an Antonov An-74 T-200A transport aircraft belonging to the Egyptian Air Force crossed Armenian airspace and landed at an airport in Azerbaijan.
Axar.az reports that this claim was made by Sputnik Armenia.
The publication writes that military flights to Azerbaijan are usually carried out over Georgia and Turkiye. Permission is required for non-civilian aircraft to fly over Armenia in accordance with the procedure. Sputnik Armenia has sent a request to the Armenian Foreign Ministry to clarify the issue.
The Armenian Foreign Ministry confirmed that this was a transit flight:
“On January 31, 2025, Cairo officially applied to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with an official application for transit through Armenian airspace during the flight from Egypt-Kyrgyzstan-Egypt from March 3 to 6. According to the Egyptian side, the flight was carried out to participate in military exercises in Kyrgyzstan. After landing in Azerbaijan, the plane continued its flight in the direction of Kyrgyzstan, as noted. On March 6, when returning, it returned from Kyrgyzstan to Azerbaijan according to the re-flight route, and here, based on the permission granted to Egypt, it returned to Cairo via Armenia. It is assumed that the plane could have landed in Azerbaijan only for refueling. That is, the flight was carried out only between Egypt and Kyrgyzstan.”
Armenian media reports that the fact that the plane passed through Armenia and headed to Azerbaijan aroused public interest. That is, the flight was purely for transit purposes and had nothing to do with Yerevan and Baku.
