Former Adjara leader hospitalized with gunshot wound

Tornike Rizhvadze (former Chairman of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara) was admitted to Sagarejo Geohospital with a gunshot wound to the chest on Monday.

Axar.az informs according to Georgian media outlets, the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs confirmed the incident.

"His condition is serious but stable. An investigation has been launched under the article of abetment to suicide,” reads the ministry's statement.

The MIA has launched an investigation under Article 115 of the Criminal Code, which stipulates suicide incitement. Intensive investigative actions are currently underway.

Rizhvadze received emergency medical treatment. According to doctors, he sustained a lung injury and remains in stable but serious condition.

Additionally, one individual has been detained under Article 238 of the Criminal Code of Georgia for the negligent storage of a firearm, the MIA stated.
