Russian President Vladimir Putin has privately urged both Iran and U.S. President Donald Trump to pursue a nuclear deal that includes “zero enrichment” of uranium by Iran.

Axar.az, citing Axios, reports that this stance marks a significant shift from Russia’s public support for Iran’s right to enrich.

The recommendation comes in the wake of the recent 12-day war between Israel and Iran, during which Israeli and U.S. strikes damaged Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.

Sources from Europe and Israel confirm that Russia has not only pushed this proposal with Tehran but also briefed Israel on it.

Putin reportedly believes that agreeing to zero enrichment could help restart favorable negotiations with the U.S. However, Iranian officials have firmly rejected the idea.

This stance has caused some tension between Tehran and Moscow, especially given Iran’s military support to Russia in Ukraine.
