If Kurdish forces in northern Syria refuse to disarm, Turkiye has prepared multiple contingency plans, including a military option.
Axar.az informs that this was reported by the Turkish daily Hürriyet.
The report states that Mazloum Abdi, the leader of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF)—which was formed by merging the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and People’s Protection Units (YPG)—is not complying with the terms of an agreement signed in March with Syrian President Ahmad al-Shara. According to the plan, Kurdish fighters are supposed to be integrated into the transitional government’s armed forces.
However, given the ongoing instability in Syria, the SDF, PKK, and YPG are not expected to surrender their weapons. Turkiye, in response, has developed operational plans for various risk scenarios.
Ankara has declared that it will not allow Syria to be divided or for the northern region to fall under the control of SDF/PKK/YPG forces. Turkiye supports Syria’s territorial integrity and the restoration of stability. If disarmament fails, a military option will be pursued.
