Turkish actor Faruk Gunugur dies at 78

Turkish actor and former General Director of the State Theatres, Faruk Gunugur, has died in Ankara at the age of 78.

Axar.az reports, citing Turkish media, that Gunugur was born in Ankara on Feb. 16, 1948, and graduated from Hacettepe University State Conservatory.

He began his professional career at the Ankara State Theatre in 1973 and spent decades working as both an actor and administrator at the State Theatres.

He held several senior positions, including acting general director, deputy general director and deputy director of the Ankara State Theatre, as well as serving on the institution’s board.

Gunugur also appeared in Turkish television series, including Kurtlar Vadisi Pusu and Tek Turkiye.

A memorial ceremony will be held for Gunugur at the Buyuk Tiyatro in Ankara at 2 p.m. on Aug. 27. He will be buried at Cebeci Asri Cemetery following afternoon prayers.

The cause of death was not disclosed.
