Nezami Ganjavi...Persian? Azerbaijani? If he was alive, he’d decide nation he belonged to

Most of the time the literary men say ‘there is no country for creative minds.’ As it was in past, human being has always been in a race of absorbing not only the values, but persons. So, there have been people throughout history who wanted to take over Azerbaijan’s wealth and lands, there have been, and still are, peoples and countries that wish to appropriate Azerbaijan’s genius children.

After the revealing of scientific fact, all prominent Soviet Orientalists including, a renowned Russian/Soviet expert in Oriental studies Academician E.E.Bertels stated, conclusively and unanimously, that the poet came from Azerbaijan.

However, this fact was taking place just before World War II and only in Russian-language journals; up to now, there have been no articles at all on Bertels’ great discovery in Western scientific publications. Therefore, Western sources still continue to refer to Nezami as a Persian poet.

Maybe, at least, we should have tried to understand what were his work about, what was his philosophy, how did he classified himself.

Indeed, after analyzing his greatest works we certainly find out that he left his stamp on Azerbaijani history, Farsi literature and global culture. He molded by the indigenous Azerbaijani tradition he showed how genius can go from specific to the universal and how culture specific writing and characters can appeal to all of humanity. Steeped in local folklore he transcended it to produce some of the greatest lyrical and epic poetry of the world. Today the world bears witness to his genius as an amazing a distinguished philosopher and a sage of immense erudition.

While Nezami was primarily an Azerbaijani writer, he mastered entire cultural heritage of his time.
