The Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Elchin Amirbekov, gave an interview to the country's leading state TV channel, ERT, as part of his working visit to Greece.

Axar.az reports that in the interview, E. Amirbekov emphasized the importance of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Greece and brought the realities of Azerbaijan to the attention of the Greek public. Referring to the 33rd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries this year, he noted the positive trend observed in the political and economic spheres in recent times, and stated that relations are developing successfully based on mutual respect, common interests, and economic potential. He also emphasized that there is great potential for further deepening Azerbaijani-Greek relations in various fields.

The Special Representative of the President, noting that the sincere and trusting relations formed between the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, and the Prime Minister of Greece, Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis, played a significant role in the recent strengthening of the bilateral political dialogue, especially emphasized the importance of the fruitful and constructive exchange of views between them during the meeting held in Baku during the COP29 conference in November last year.

E. Amirbekov, noting that the energy cooperation between Azerbaijan and Greece is of a long-term and strategic nature, noted the importance of delivering Azerbaijani gas to Europe, including Greece, through the Southern Gas Corridor. At the same time, he noted that Azerbaijan is interested in expanding cooperation with Greece in the fields of renewable energy, including hydrogen, solar, and wind energy, within the framework of its green energy transition policy.

Touching upon the development of cooperation in the fields of trade, transport, agriculture, high technologies, tourism and culture, the Azerbaijani official noted the political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs held in Baku in 2024, as well as the subsequent meeting of the joint intergovernmental commission and the action plan adopted at that meeting, emphasizing that this document serves as a roadmap that provides for specific steps to further deepen Azerbaijani-Greek economic relations.

Speaking about the peace process with Armenia, Elchin Amirbekov noted that the text of the peace agreement had already been agreed upon in March 2025 and that the parties were very close to signing it. Speaking about the factors preventing the signing of the agreement, he indicated that the territorial claims against Azerbaijan in the Armenian constitution were still one of the main obstacles that contradicted the content and spirit of the peace agreement. In addition, he stated that it was necessary to abolish the Minsk Group and other OSCE institutions that had lost their significance. E. Amirbekov expressed his confidence that both issues would find a positive solution sooner or later.
