According to Cuba's state-run television, a Boeing 737 crashed shortly after a takeoff from José Marti International Airport in Cuba.
The plane was headed for Holguin on the eastern side of the island from Havana when it crashed between the airport and the nearby town of Santiago de las Vegas. The country's President Miguel Díaz-Canel has reportedly arrived at the scene of the incident.
According to Cuba's ambassador in the US José Ramón Cabañas, there were 104 passengers onboard. At the same time, a military officer, who refused to provide his name, told reporters that there have been only three survivors in critical condition, who have been hospitalized; no official information has been provided yet.
