During the last three decades of its modern history, Azerbaijan has consistently established its statehood and pursued a policy based on a clear understanding of its national interests. From my point of view, Azerbaijan fulfils this task brilliantly.

Axar.az reports that the vice-speaker of the Russian Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev said this while commenting on the results of the Baku meeting with the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.

"Strategic cooperation between Russia and Azerbaijan is not immediate, it is a long-term project of interstate cooperation. Azerbaijan has not joined any military bloc, it has been the leader of the Non-Aligned Movement for four years, and during its chairmanship, it breathed new life into this second-largest international organization, and only praises fall on the Republic of Azerbaijan and President Aliyev personally. This is an achievement," he said.

According to Kosachev, Azerbaijan needs neither mediators nor military allies:

"This is a normal position that requires respect. The positions of Moscow and Baku in this matter completely coincide. It remains for other South Caucasus countries to understand this - Georgia and, unfortunately, Armenia, which is drifting in the wrong direction of rapprochement with the West."
