Russian President Vladimir Putin will not attend the inauguration ceremony of Mexico's newly elected President Claudia Sheinbaum.

Axar.az reports that this was stated by Alexander Shchetinin, the director of the Latin America Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

Shchetinin did not explain the reasons for Putin's refusal but added that Moscow acts in accordance with existing protocol practices and the obligations of the Russian leader.

Some experts believe that Ukraine has requested the Kremlin leader's arrest in Mexico, given that Mexico has signed the Rome Statute, and this is why Putin is wary of traveling to Mexico.
