Azerbaijani President visits Devin Castle in Bratislava -

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and President of the Republic of Slovakia Peter Pellegrini visited Devin Castle in Bratislava on December 8.

Axar.az reports that the head of state was informed about the ancient castle located at the confluence of the Morava and Danube rivers.

It was noted that Devin Castle, one of the symbols of Slovakia, is included in the list of national cultural monuments of this country. The name Devin is first mentioned in written sources in the chronicles dating back to 864. The castle played an important role in the history of Great Moravia, which existed from 822 to 907. In the 23rd century, Devin was the royal and border fortress of the Hungarians. In 1809, Napoleon's army mined and blew up the castle. In 1896, a monument was erected here as a symbol of the collapse of the castle. After the First World War, the first caves were discovered in the mountain massif above the remains of the castle. Archaeological research has been conducted intermittently in the area for over a century. For millennia, Devin Castle was a place of ancient settlement, as well as a gathering place for merchants and warriors.
