The announcement of a week-long holiday in the country in connection with December 31 - World Azerbaijanis Solidarity Day and New Year's Day is still on the public agenda. Discussions are mainly being held to ensure the sequence of holidays.
Axar.az reports that earlier in the media, it was reported that December 29, 30, 31, 2025, and January 1, 2, 3, 4, 2026 would be non-working days. Thus, in order to ensure the sequence of work and rest days, the working days of December 29 and 30, 2025, will be replaced by Saturday and Sunday, December 27 and 28. As a result, a holiday will be established in the country from December 29 to January 5, 2026.
However, the Cabinet of Ministers, in an official statement to the media reports, emphasized that such a decision has not yet been made. Final approval is expected for the official decision.
It should be noted that in previous years, in order to regulate some holidays in a more convenient way, there were cases of shifting working and rest days. However, such a shift was not previously made in connection with the World Azerbaijanis Solidarity Day and the New Year holiday. For example, in the December-January period of 2024, December 30 and January 3 were kept as working days, and non-working days were declared only for December 30, January 1, and 2.
In short, based on the experience of previous years, it can be concluded that this year, December 29 and 30 will be observed as official working days, and December 31 and January 1–4 will be observed as non-working days. Thus, the number of days off in connection with the New Year holiday will be 5 days.
In any case, the answer to this question will depend on the official decision of the Cabinet of Ministers.
