In Russia, the renowned designer of nuclear submarines and long-time head of the Rubin Central Design Bureau, academic Igor Spassky, has passed away at the age of 98.

Axar.az reports that the press service of the St. Petersburg government has announced this news.

"His name is associated with projects that have become the foundation of the strategic potential of the Russian Navy," the statement said.

It is noted that the academic was the leading designer of the “Kalmar,” “Akula,” and “Delfin” submarines, as well as the “Granite” and “Antey” submarines, which form the core of Russia's strategic submarine fleet.
