Iranians have taken to social media to mock their government following a failed missile attack on Israel. The attack, which took place on October 1, involved the launch of approximately 180 missiles in what was claimed to be retaliation for the recent assassinations of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh, for which Iran holds Israel responsible.
Axar.az reports that while most of the missiles were intercepted by Israel's Iron Dome defense system, a few reportedly struck military bases, schools, and restaurants. Despite these incidents, Iranian citizens used platforms such as X (formerly Twitter) to share memes, videos, and images poking fun at the government's failed attempt, with many highlighting missile malfunctions and Iran’s inability to hit its intended targets.
One popular meme depicted Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei holding a rocket launcher pointing backward, symbolizing the attack's failure. Other posts included jokes about military officials, with users questioning their competency in handling such operations.
The Iranian government has yet to issue a formal response to the widespread ridicule online. Meanwhile, officials from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) have claimed that 90 percent of the missiles hit their targets, despite contrary reports from Israel.
