Today marks the 4th anniversary of the liberation of the city of Qubadli.

Axar.az reports that the victorious Azerbaijani Army liberated the city of Qubadli from occupiers on October 25, 2020, proudly waving our tricolor flag in those territories after nearly 30 years.

On October 25, 2020, the President of Azerbaijan, Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, announced the liberation of several villages in the Zangilan, Jabrail, and Qubadli districts, as well as the city of Qubadli.

A total of 5,867 servicemen who participated in the operations for the liberation of Qubadlı have been awarded the "Medal for the Liberation of Qubadli" for their personal bravery and courage.

It should be noted that the Qubadli district was established in 1933 based on the village of Qubadli. It was abolished in 1963 and merged with the Zangilan district, but became an independent district again in 1964. Qubadli was occupied by the Armenian Armed Forces on August 31, 1993. The administrative division includes one city, 93 villages, and 31 administrative-territorial units.

The terrain of the Qubadli district is mainly mountainous. It includes the southwestern part of the Karabakh range (Topagac Mountain – 2,010 m, Pirdag – 1,316 m), the eastern part of the Bargushad range (Hertis Mountain – 1,277 m), and the southeastern part of the Karabakh plateau (Qurbantepe Mountain – 1,075 m). The Yazı plain, which is the southeastern end of the Karabakh plateau (between the Bazarchay and Hekeri rivers), descends to about 450 m. The area transitions from the hilly and wavy Karabakh range to the smooth İncə plain. Jurassic and anthropogenic sediments are widespread, and there are agate deposits. The rivers include Bazarchay, Həkəri, and their tributaries (such as Kichik Hekeri, Meydanderesi, etc.), which are used for irrigation.

Brown mountain-forest soils dominate the district. The main vegetation cover consists of shrubland and sparse forests. There are mountain forests with species like pistachio, oak, and elm. The forest area covers 13,200 hectares. Wildlife includes bears, wolves, wild boar, foxes, gray rabbits, porcupines, etc. Bird species include gray partridges, turac, quail, pigeons, and others. The Qubadli sanctuary has been established in the region.

According to a decree signed by President Ilham Aliyev on July 31, 2023, October 25 is celebrated as Qubadli City Day.
