Iran confirms death sentence for embassy attacker

The Iranian Supreme Court has confirmed the death sentence for Yasin Huseynzadeh, who attacked the embassy of Azerbaijan on January 27, 2023, following the earlier court ruling.

Axar.az reports that this statement was made by the spokesperson of the Iranian Judiciary, Asghar Jahangiri.

According to him, the court has already presented the death sentence decision for Yasin Huseynzadeh to the execution department.

Under Iranian law, the sentence can only be carried out upon the request of the victim's family (referring to the family of Orkhan Asgarov, the head of the Azerbaijani embassy's security service, who was killed). If the victim's family pardons the killer, the sentence will not be executed.
