Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, founder and head of IDEA Public Union Leyla Aliyeva, and head of the Baku Media Center Arzu Aliyeva participated in the event on "Accelerating Sustainability through Innovation and Cooperation" held within the framework of the World Economic Forum in Davos on January 23.

Axar.az reports that speaking at the event, Leyla Aliyeva touched upon the environmental problems in the region, especially the ecological situation in the Caspian Sea, which requires urgent attention. She noted that a sharp decrease in the level of the Caspian Sea has been observed in the last 10 years. She emphasized that the Caspian is the largest lake in the world and accounts for more than 40 percent of the total water resources of the world's lakes, and provided detailed information to the event participants about its unique ecosystem.

The Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation noted that the problems observed in the Caspian Sea harm the population of some living creatures, including the Caspian seal, sturgeon, and salmon. In particular, she noted that the number of Caspian seals has significantly decreased and stressed the importance of protecting this species.

The event participants were also informed about the establishment of the Caspian Sea Research Center, which was presented by IDEA at COP29 to scientifically study and monitor the complex problems observed in the Caspian Sea and put forward proposals for their possible solutions. It was noted that the center will contribute to strengthening regional cooperation and ensuring the future sustainability of the Caspian Sea.

In conclusion, Leyla Aliyeva emphasized the importance of conducting continuous monitoring and analysis, supporting scientific research for the protection of the unique ecological system of the Caspian Sea, and called on international experts, representatives of research centers, and other interested parties to come up with joint projects and initiatives in this direction and establish cooperation.

It should be noted that the event, which brought together visionary leaders, innovators, and interested parties to explore innovative solutions to the most pressing problems of the time, was attended by high-level representatives of organizations operating in the relevant field from different countries.
