Turan Tovuz excluded from European Competitions

Turan Tovuz have been excluded from UEFA club competitions.

Axar.az reports that the club’s press service confirmed the decision.

The statement said Turan Tovuz finished third in the 2025/26 Azerbaijan Premier League season and secured a place in the UEFA Conference League on sporting merit. However, UEFA’s disciplinary bodies reviewed the club’s eligibility criteria and, citing a December 13, 2019 decision by the AFFA Disciplinary Committee, ruled on June 2, 2026, to exclude the club from UEFA competitions for the 2026/27 season.

However, UEFA’s disciplinary bodies reviewed the club’s eligibility criteria and, citing a December 13, 2019 decision by the AFFA Disciplinary Committee based on an investigation conducted by the special commission on match-fixing operating under the AFFA, as well as experts’ findings regarding suspicious incidents recorded in several matches involving Aghsu FK, Turan Tovuz, and Zira FK II in the First Division and information received from UEFA, ruled on June 2, 2026, to exclude the club from UEFA competitions for the 2026/27 season.

The investigation found that the listed players and other football officials, as well as individuals with no official involvement in football, had participated in matches with manipulated outcomes.

The players named in the decision were:

Sanan Gocayev, Misir Rustamov, Emin Bagirov, Ilkin Sadiqov, Rufat Məmmədov, Eltay Tagiyev and Sahin Guluzade.

Turan Tovuz said it will take legal steps to challenge the decision and plans to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), while maintaining that preparations for the Conference League will continue as planned, including a training camp in Turkiye later this month.

The club had qualified for the UEFA Conference League after finishing third in the domestic league.
