Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan's refusal to hug US Secretary of State Antony Blinken was caused by the impoliteness shown by the American head of diplomacy.

According to information, footage from the meeting between Fidan and Blinken is widely discussed in the Turkish media and social networks:

"After the handshake at the meeting, Blinken took a step forward and tried to hug Fidan, but the Turkish minister took a step back and continued to shake the hand of the state secretary. When Blinken's car arrived at the building of the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Fidan got out of the car and stood in front of the door of the ministry - this is how the minister welcomes every guest. Fidan returned to the building before Blinken, who was talking on the phone, got out of the car. In response to Blinken's diplomatic tactlessness, Fidan rejected the US Secretary of State's attempt to hug him."
