Pashinyan rejects need for EU-EEAU referendum

It is not logical to hold a referendum on choosing between the EU and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) at present, as Yerevan is working—and will continue to work—until it reaches a point where a choice between the EAEU and the EU becomes inevitable.

Axar.az informs that the Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan made the statement.

“Another important question is when such a referendum should be held. At least until Armenia officially applies for EU membership or comes close to obtaining candidate status, it would be unreasonable to hold any referendum. Because essentially, no basis or balance has yet been formed to give people a real choice. Today, this choice is theoretical, and putting a theoretical choice to a referendum is not appropriate,” he said.

It should be noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin has suggested that Armenia should hold a referendum on choosing between the EAEU and the EU.
