Fidan: Hormuz Strait dispute could be resolved by weekend

Differences between Iran and the United States over the Strait of Hormuz could be resolved by the end of the week.

Axar.az reports that Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said reopening the Strait of Hormuz had been one of the key conditions, but although both sides had been working toward that goal, they held different views on how the process should be implemented.

"One side realized that certain steps had been taken without its knowledge. Attacks on ships followed, tensions escalated, and the strait was eventually blocked. The regulation of transit through the Strait of Hormuz must be based on mutual understanding. Since yesterday, diplomatic efforts between the parties have ushered in a period of relative calm. Now the problem must be resolved by restoring mutual understanding. I believe the differences over transit through the strait can be resolved by the weekend," Fidan said.
