A fourth republic is currently being established in Armenia.
Axar.az reports, citing Armenian media, that Armenian opposition lawmaker Ishkhan Saghatelyan claimed that the republic was being established at the behest of Turkiye and Azerbaijan.
“Turkiye is the architect of the ‘Fourth Republic of Armenia,’ while Azerbaijan is the constructor. European countries, meanwhile, are handling the design.”
It should be noted that the idea of “Greater Armenia” has occupied an important place in Armenian political thought for many years. This approach has been accompanied by territorial claims involving neighboring countries, including Azerbaijan and Turkiye. For this reason, Baku and Ankara have made the removal of provisions containing territorial claims from Armenia’s constitution an important condition.
At the same time, new geopolitical and political realities have emerged in the region following the 44-day war. Azerbaijan’s gains in the aftermath of the war and its growing political influence in the region have enabled Baku to put forward certain demands in the process of normalizing relations between Baku and Yerevan. Baku links these demands to ensuring long-term peace and stability in the region. From this perspective, Azerbaijan’s imposition of specific political and legal conditions on Armenia can be viewed as a positive outcome of the new realities that have emerged in the region.
