Egypt in contact with Iran to de-escalate tensions

Cairo was in contact with Iran as part of efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region and restore navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.

Axar.az reports that Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty said in an interview with Al Arabiya.

“There are contacts with the Iranian side, particularly regarding efforts to de-escalate and work to convince them to return to the negotiating table," he said.

He said Egypt was also communicating with various regional and international parties, stressing that political and diplomatic solutions were the only way out of the current crises.

Abdelatty said Egypt, in coordination with Oman, was working on a draft joint declaration aimed at restoring navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.

He also said a four-way framework involving Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye and Pakistan served as a platform for political dialogue and security consultations. He added that an upcoming Arab ministerial meeting in Cairo next month would discuss security challenges facing the region.
