1 dead, several missing after yacht and ship collide in Japan

One person was killed and several others were reported missing after a yacht and a cargo ship collided in waters off southern Japan on Wednesday.

Axar.az informs, citing AFP, the captain of a 492-ton gravel carrier reported the collision near Hoto Island in Japan’s Oita region, according to local coast guard officials.

One person, a 70-year-old man from Oita, was found unconscious in the water at around 10:00 a.m. and later confirmed dead at a hospital.

The gravel carrier’s captain said there were several people aboard the yacht. Six coast guard vessels and one aircraft are continuing to search for the missing.
