The White House has launched a review of the Smithsonian Institution to ensure its exhibitions reflect President Donald Trump’s vision of “American exceptionalism” ahead of the U.S. 250th anniversary.
Axar.az, citing Politico, reports that in a letter to Smithsonian Secretary Lonnie Bunch, administration officials said the overhaul seeks to remove “divisive or partisan narratives” and promote “unifying, historically accurate” portrayals of U.S. heritage.
The first phase targets eight major museums, including the National Museum of American History and the National Museum of African American History and Culture, with changes expected within 120 days.
The move follows Trump’s earlier executive order accusing the Smithsonian of promoting a “race-centered ideology” and comes as part of a broader cultural reshaping under his administration.
