Over 5,000 arrested as France’s student protests escalate

Massive France protests have resulted in the arrest of over 5,000 people, the closure of 400 high schools, and injuries to dozens of school staff as teenagers and riot police clash over deteriorating classroom conditions and severe educational budget cuts.

Axar.az reports, citing Collin Rugg News, that across major hubs including Paris, Marseille, Toulouse, and Strasbourg, demonstrations over teacher shortages and crowded facilities have escalated into volatile street confrontations.

French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez reported that police detained 1,747 individuals in a single day, most of them teenagers, after demonstrations saw barricades set ablaze, fireworks launched at law enforcement, and tear gas deployed in response.

What began as local building blockades in the Paris suburbs has rapidly evolved into a national crisis, placing intense political pressure on the government just months before voters head to the polls for a presidential election. With major labor unions preparing to escalate the walkouts, the standoff between youth demonstrators and security forces continues to widen.
