Nokia and ICEYE to help Ukraine build its own Starlink

The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense has signed a letter of intent with the Finnish companies ICEYE and Nokia regarding cooperation in space.

Axar.az reports, citing RBC-Ukraine, the goal is to create its own secure satellite communications system, which will be controlled by Ukraine.

The letter of intent was signed on October 22 during Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo's visit to Ukraine. For now, this is just the first step: the parties have agreed to explore opportunities for cooperation. No specific timelines or funding details have been disclosed.

In early October, ICEYE and Nokia announced the joint development of a secure satellite broadband network in low Earth orbit, similar to Starlink. The main difference is that the government, as the client, will own and manage everything: the satellites, ground infrastructure, and terminals.
