Kyrgyzstan renames Jalal-Abad to Manas

President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov signed the law "On renaming the city of Jalal-Abad to Manas."

Axar.az reports the law was adopted by the Parliament on September 10, 2025.

The purpose of the law is to strengthen national ideology and name Jalal-Abad after the great Manas, a national hero and defender of the Kyrgyz people from various invasions.

The document will come into force ten days after its official publication.

For reference, Jalalabad was officially founded in October 1877. The city covers an area of 64.6 square kilometers and has a population of more than 184,000 people.
