Four people have died after a former office block collapsed in Madrid.
Axar.az informs, citing Telegraph, the six-storey building near Plaza Mayor, a popular tourist area, was being converted into a hotel, but on Tuesday afternoon the top floor caved in, causing the lower floors to collapse under its weight.
The victims have been identified as three men aged between 30 and 50 from Ecuador, Mali and Guinea who were employed at the site as construction workers, as well as a 30-year-old woman, the renovation project’s architect.
José Luis Almeida, the mayor of Madrid, wrote on X: “It is with deep sadness that we confirm that Madrid firefighters have recovered the bodies of the people who went missing after the collapse.
“All our love and support go to their families, friends, and colleagues in this very difficult time.”
Their remains were found early on Wednesday, nearly 15 hours after a search-and-rescue operation in which police and firefighters deployed drones and sniffer dogs. Three other construction workers were injured.
