China furious over geopolitical changes in Latin America

The opinion argues that China is increasingly alarmed by shifting geopolitics in Latin America, where a rightward political turn and President Trump’s return have weakened Beijing’s influence.

Axar.az, citing The Hill, reports that several countries are strengthening ties with the U.S. and Taiwan, triggering diplomatic clashes with China.

Examples include Panama distancing itself from China’s Belt and Road Initiative, Peru and Paraguay resisting Beijing’s pressure over Taiwan, Mexico imposing tariffs on Chinese goods, and Argentina favoring U.S. defense cooperation.

China is accused of using coercive diplomacy and economic pressure, while the U.S. reasserts Latin America as a strategic priority.
