BBC: Russia’s war losses reach record high in 2025

Over the past 10 months, Russia's losses in the war against Ukraine have increased at the fastest pace since the start of a full-scale invasion in 2022, according to a BBC analysis.

Axar.az reports that as peace efforts intensified in 2025 under pressure from the Trump administration, Russian sources reported that obituaries of military deaths were published 40% more than the previous year.

In total, BBC journalists have confirmed the names of about 160,000 people who died fighting on the Russian side in Ukraine.

It is noted that the actual death toll is much higher, and military experts believe that the BBC analysis may reflect only 45-65% of the total.

Therefore, it is believed that the number of deaths in the Russian army ranges from 243,000 to 352,000.
