6.5 million Somalis to benefit as EU provides €63M in aid

The European Union has announced €63 million in humanitarian aid to help Somalia’s most vulnerable communities affected by conflict, displacement, worsening drought, and rising food prices.

Axar.az, citing the European Commission, around 6.5 million people face hunger, and 1.85 million children under five are at risk of acute malnutrition.

The funding will support life-saving health and nutrition services, emergency cash assistance, water and sanitation, protection, and emergency education, delivered through trusted EU humanitarian partners.

This new aid brings the EU’s total humanitarian support for Somalia since 2017 to over €750 million.

The EU also participates in the Global Leadership Roundtable to coordinate responses to the food crisis and remains committed to emergency relief despite global aid cuts.
