Zelensky says Europe is working on Starlink alternatives

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said European countries have stepped up efforts to develop alternatives to Starlink after restrictions were imposed on the satellite communications system’s operations in Ukraine.

Axar.az reports, citing local media, that Zelensky made the remarks while answering questions from journalists.

According to Zelensky, restrictions on the operating speed of Starlink terminals have shown European countries how dependent they are on decisions made by the United States in the field of satellite communications.

“Washington has the ability to restrict the system’s operations regardless of existing agreements and contracts, creating risks for the security of countries that use this technology. All of Europe has seen that the United States can regulate and limit Starlink’s speed regardless of agreements and contracts,” he said.

The Ukrainian president stressed that European countries are already working to develop their own alternatives to Starlink. However, he did not specify which countries are involved or what stage the projects have reached.
