The death toll from flooding caused by persistent heavy rainfall in Istanbul, Turkiye, has risen to five.

Axar.az reports, citing Turkish media, that four more people remain missing.

Interior Minister Mustafa Ciftci said one of the missing people had been found alive.

It should be noted that heavy rainfall has caused serious damage in several Turkish cities over the past few days, and further rain is forecast.

The downpour in Istanbul is the first of its kind in 84 years. In addition to Istanbul, schools and other educational institutions in the provinces of Zonguldak, Yalova, Kocaeli, Duzce and Sakarya have suspended classes for two days.
