Trump's Iran strikes mark his biggest foreign policy gamble

With his sweeping military assault on Iran, Donald Trump has placed perhaps the most consequential foreign‑policy bet of his presidency, using overwhelming U.S. force in an attempt to reshape the Middle East.

Axar.az, citing Reuters, reports in a coordinated U.S.–Israel campaign known as Operation Epic Fury, Trump ordered extensive strikes across Iran, which included targeting top leadership and strategic military infrastructure.

Iranian state media has since confirmed the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in the attacks — a dramatic development that would mark a major tactical victory but also inject deep uncertainty into the future of the Islamic Republic.

Rather than the limited raids his administration previously preferred, Trump’s current strategy risks a prolonged conflict with Iran that experts warn could draw in the wider region.
