Launch of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway will further boost ties

The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway project is a successful example of cooperation between Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkiye.

Axar.az reports that the Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze made the remarks at a ceremony marking the launch of the BTK railway line after modernization.

The prime minister described the project as a historic initiative and a clear example of strategic partnership and consistent cooperation between Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkiye.

According to him, the reconstruction of the Marabda-Kartsakhi railway section is one of the largest infrastructure projects implemented in the region.

Kobakhidze noted that the BTK line has been operating in test mode since 2017, during which more than 1 million tons of cargo, including nearly 80,000 containers, have been transported.

The prime minister stressed that the results achieved once again confirm the project's economic and logistical importance.

"The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line is an important part of the Middle Corridor and plays a key role in strengthening connectivity between Europe and Asia," he said.

According to Kobakhidze, as a result of the modernization work carried out, the line's annual cargo capacity has been increased to 5 million tons, which will significantly boost the region's transport and transit potential.
