For now, there is no visible public momentum inside Iran at a level that would result in regime change, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said.
Axar.az informs he noted that under the current circumstances, the worst-case scenario would be a continued escalation of the conflict, creating an environment of instability that engulfs not only Iran but the entire region.
Fidan said that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ultimately wants to eliminate what he sees as the Iranian threat — both now and in the future. “He used to define the threat as Iran’s capabilities. Now he has gone beyond capabilities and defines the threat as the regime itself. There is a goal of regime change,” Fidan said.
Recalling that Turkiye has been working to prevent such an outcome and has put forward creative solutions, Fidan added:
“We even managed to delay the start of the war. In fact, it would have begun earlier, but we postponed it somewhat through our efforts. Perhaps a result could have been achieved, but they chose to revert to the old method. Once again, the war began in the middle of negotiations. The Iranians describe the outbreak of war during negotiations as a betrayal of diplomacy. From now on, we must carefully assess what will happen next. We also need to look at the intentions of the attacking powers. In my view, Israel and the United States will seek to ensure that Iran no longer poses a threat in the future.”
