Starmer confirms Cyprus base not be used for strikes on Iran

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer confirmed to the Cypriot President that RAF Akrotiri would not be used by the U.S. for potential strikes against Iranian missile capabilities.

Axar.az informs, citing Independent, Starmer told the Cypriot president that RAF Akrotiri would not be among the UK bases from which the US could launch strikes, hours after it emerged Iran had fired missiles at the joint US-UK Diego Garcia base in the Indian Ocean.

On Friday, the UK gave Donald Trump the green light to use British bases to strike Iranian missile sites targeting the Strait of Hormuz.

But the base in Cyprus will not be included, the PM said.

Earlier, the Wall Street Journal and CNN reported on ballistic missiles being fired at Diego Garcia, citing unnamed US officials, but said that neither weapon reached its target.
