Sudan detains former ruling party chief wanted by ICC

Sudan's army has detained Ahmed Haroun, the former chairman of the country's ruling National Congress Party, who is wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Axar.az reports, citing Reuters, that Haroun, a senior official during the rule of ousted president Omar al-Bashir, is wanted by the ICC over war crimes and genocide in Sudan's Darfur region in the early 2000s. He has denied the charges, describing them as politically motivated.

Haroun had recently said that his party and the army were united in their fight against the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), despite not being politically aligned.
