Rubio, Witkoff meet Qatar PM on Iran deal efforts

Marco Rubio and White House envoy Steve Witkoff met with Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani in Miami as part of efforts to reach a deal to end the war with Iran.

Axar.az reports, citing Axios, the meeting focused on “the path to achieving a memorandum of understanding to end the war.”

According to the report, the United States and Iran are currently negotiating over a one-page memorandum aimed at ending the conflict and creating a framework for broader talks.

Sources said Washington was still awaiting Tehran’s latest response as of Saturday afternoon.

The report noted that although Pakistan has formally mediated between the two sides since the start of the war, Qatar has been playing a major behind-the-scenes role in the negotiations.

One source said Qatar, Pakistan, Egypt, Turkiye and Saudi Arabia are “working in tandem to push for an agreement.”

“The mediators are urging both parties to de-escalate and focus on getting a deal,” the source added.
