The Guardian has published a response letter from Gunel Salimova, Counsellor at the Embassy of Azerbaijan in the United Kingdom, addressed to the newspaper’s editorial board in connection with a biased article.

Axar.az reports that the letter notes that, contrary to the author’s views, the film in question contains a chauvinistic stance and does not reflect the existing reality. It also stresses that when discussing the former conflict, the tragedies suffered by the Azerbaijani people, the humanitarian and social consequences of the occupation, as well as the continuing threat posed by landmines, should be taken into account.

The letter also points out that the cause of the former conflict was Armenia’s occupation of Azerbaijani territories and that Azerbaijan restored its territorial integrity in 2020.

It emphasizes that significant progress has been made toward lasting peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia, and that during their recent meetings, the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia discussed concrete results already achieved in the peace and normalization process. In this regard, the resumption of trade relations between the two countries, the delimitation of their borders and regional connectivity projects were highlighted.

The Azerbaijani side stressed that it favors directing attention not to the divisions created by the former conflict, but to the positive results achieved in strengthening peace, cooperation and mutual trust in the region.
