Uganda shifts focus to Gaza after Somalia withdrawal

Uganda's Chief of Defence Forces, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, said Uganda will focus more on its mission in Gaza after withdrawing all its troops from Somalia.

Axar.az reports that Kainerugaba made the remarks in a post on his X account.

"As we withdraw all our troops from Somalia. We shall focus more on the Gaza mission," he said.

It should be noted that Turkish media have described General Kainerugaba's move as a potential harbinger of a new era in Middle Eastern and East African diplomacy.

According to reports, Uganda's leadership, which has recently stepped up engagement with countries across the region, particularly Egypt, aims to play an active role in any potential peacekeeping force or humanitarian initiative related to Gaza.

It should be recalled that the Chief of Defence Forces recently issued a statement urging Turkish nationals to leave Uganda as soon as possible.
