Russia ready to maintain ties with Armenia, says Kremlin

Russia is ready to maintain constructive relations with Armenia if Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan wins the June 7 elections.

Axar.az reports, citing Russian media, that Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said.

“For us, Armenia is important as a country with which we share centuries of history. And of course, it is important for us that Armenia wants to be our friend,” Peskov said.

Peskov also described Armenia’s choice between the European Union (EU) and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) as artificially created.

According to him, Armenia has in fact not been participating in the work of the CSTO for a long time. However, the Kremlin believes that participation in the EAEU is more beneficial for the country.
