India summons US diplomat over vessel attack

India on Wednesday summoned US Chargé d’Affaires Jason Meeks in New Delhi to lodge a strong protest over an attack on a commercial vessel off the coast of Oman near the Strait of Hormuz.

Axar.az informs, citing The New Indian Express, that the move came after three Indian crew members were reported missing following the incident.

Jason Meeks was called in by Nagaraj Naidu, Additional Secretary (Americas) at India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), to discuss the matter.

It should be noted that the US military reportedly neutralized the Settebello oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman. The vessel was sailing under the flag of Palau and was operated by Indian nationals.
