Funeral ceremonies for Ali Khamenei to be held also in Iraq

The commemoration of Iran’s late leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei will also include funeral ceremonies in the Iraqi cities of Najaf and Karbala, with the Iraqi government responsible for announcing specific times and locations.

Axar.az reports, citing Mehr News Agency, that organizers expressed gratitude to Iraq's religious authorities, government, and people for their persistent requests to hold processions at the shrines in Najaf and Karbala.

The burial is scheduled for Thursday, July 9—coinciding with the night of Imam Sajjad's martyrdom—at the Imam Reza Shrine in Mashhad.

Earlier, Tehran Mayor Alireza Zakani also stated that a farewell ceremony for Khamenei would be held in Iraq.

It should be noted that Khamenei is expected to be buried in Mashhad on July 9.
