Burnham thanks Starmer after resignation announcement

Andy Burnham has said he will put himself forward in the leadership process following UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s resignation.

Axar.az reports that in a post on X, Burnham said Starmer had given “huge service” to the country and thanked him for his leadership and dedication during a challenging period.

He stated that Starmer’s decision marks “the beginning of a transition” and stressed that it should be conducted in an “orderly and responsible way.”

“I will put myself forward as part of this process,” Burnham said, adding that the country expects “stability, seriousness and a continued focus on the issues that matter most.”

He highlighted priorities including economic growth, the cost of living, public services, housing, and opportunities for young people.

Burnham also said political change should not distract from improving people’s lives, noting that the Labour movement is strongest when it looks forward “with confidence and purpose.”

It should be noted that UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has resigned.
